Click one of the following frequently asked questions about this Web site to go to the answer.

  1. What are fractals?

  2. Why does my credit card statement refer to CafePress when I order merchandise from Creativity Software?

1. What are fractals?

Fractals are shapes or objects that are "self-similar" - a small part of the fractal when viewed at a higher magnification looks very much like the whole fractal. For an example, see the fractal movie Endless M (108 KB).

Fractal shapes are quite common in nature - probably more so than not. Some of the first things in nature recognized as fractals include mountains, shorelines, trees, seashells, feathers, clouds, and lightning.  There is just something about fractal shapes that the human mind finds inherently pleasing.

Go to the Image Gallery and Movie Gallery sections of this Web site to see some example fractals created with Fractal Odyssey. Download Fractal Viewer (it's free!) and the 44 sample files to see more fractal images and movies and with much better image quality. Buy Fractal Odyssey and create your own fractal images and movies!

Fractal Viewer's and  Fractal Odyssey's help documentation contain a discussion of fractals and their history, and an explanation of how computer programs such as the Fractal Odyssey application create fractal images.

2. Why does my credit card statement refer to CafePress when I order merchandise from Creativity Software?

Creativity Software, Inc. is the developer of the Fractal Odyssey and Fractal Viewer software applications. CafePress produces and distributes the Fractal Odyssey CD-ROMs and the merchandise that Creativity Software offers for sale. CafePress handles the collection of shipping and payment information for Creativity Software, Inc. This is why your credit card statement refers to CafePress rather than Creativity Software, Inc.
