About the Author:
Hi. I'm the author of the Fractal Odyssey and Fractal Viewer software. I first became interested in fractals when I read a book on mathematics which contained a few pictures of fractals. I was amazed at how relatively simple equations could produce such beautiful and detailed pictures. I was not satisfied with the few pictures of fractals in the book so decided to write a program to generate my own fractals. My teenage daughter enjoyed playing with the program so much that I thought others would too. From that inspiration I developed the Fractal Odyssey and Fractal Viewer software.
About the Featured Fractal:
Evolution is a Julia-type movie (a type of fractal) and is a good example of this type of fractal animation. Julia-type fractal movies are interesting for the overall shape of the fractal rather than for the small details. I thought that the animation sequence looked like a small, weak fractal evolving to become a larger, stronger fractal - hence the name.
